The Legacy of Loving v. Virginia

Mildred and Richard Loving, whose historic 1967 Supreme Court victory in Loving v. Virginia legalized interracial marriage nationwide, are honored annually on June 12th as part of "Loving Day". This important civil rights milestone occurs just days before Juneteenth, a holiday celebrated on June 19th marking the emancipation of enslaved African Americans. While distinct historical events, Juneteenth and the Lovings' fight against the Virginia Racial Integrity Act share deep connections in the ongoing pursuit of racial justice and equality in America. Both represent major turning points in dismantling laws rooted in white supremacy and the legacy of slavery.

The CLE will begin at 10AM with the Program on the Legacy of Loving v. Virginia and conclude with a reading of the Emancipation Proclamation, the 14th Amendment, and General Order 3.

Registration is Open to All Virginia Attorneys at no cost.
